The PN spokesman on the civil service, Ryan Callus this afternoon criticised the head of the civil service for “partisan comments” made in a newspaper interview and said that Mario Cutajar should either observe public serviceimpartiality or else contest the elections as a Labour candidate.
Mr Callus objected to declarations by Mr Cutajar that Labour needs people of trust as it had been in opposition for 25 years.
Mr Callus said that such partisan comments by the head of the civil service were unheard of especially as the role should be an impartial one and Mr Cutajar was supposed to represent all public service employees.
“It seems that as head of all civil servants, Mr Cutajar is more interested in defending the Prime Minister and the Labour Party instead of the public service at large,” he said.
Mr Cutajar was appointed as the head of the civil service as soon as Labour was elected to power.
A former deputy secretary general of the GWU, Mr Cutajar was also the author of various books on the history of the Labour party. He was also employed as one of the assistants of former Labour MEP Glen Bedingfield.
Rosalyn Borg – a new PN candidate – criticised Mr Cutajar for allowing employees in the private secretariats of various ministers to conduct partisan programmes on One TV.
She said that once these employees have been put on the public wage bill they should stop acting also as Labour journalists.
She said that these government employees include Charlon Gouder, Ramona Attard and Jonathan Attard.
