The French magazine l’ Equipe has dealt a deadly blow to the tenets of fair play. Irrespective of his undoubted skill and prolific scoring power, Luis Suarez should never have even been considered for the Golden Boot Trophy. Instead he should have been given the Order of the Boot and completely kicked out of this great game of football.

And this he deserves not only for last World Cup incident when, once again, he bit an opponent, thus bringing our noble game into disrepute, but also for his consistent outrageous behaviour and alleged racial abuse on the field of play.

Whatever the sports award, this should be nullified if there is a serious breach of conduct.

It is indeed a real shame to put Suarez on such an elevated podium when we are trying to instill good behaviour in our young players.
