Do we really have a consumers’ watchdog? I ask this as repeated requests for a proper and updated telephone directory have been ignored. Such a directory exists in all civilised countries, but in Malta, the service providers are extra reluctant to issue the information.

This could be for two reasons: service providers might not want to divulge their clients, as otherwise they could be besieged to change their service, and calling directory enquires involves a substantial charge which provides lucrative income to the provider.

Francis Flynn (Times of Malta, October 29) is one of many demanding such a service, but I can assure him that the powers that be are not interested.

I and many others had written in the past but our pleas have always fallen on deaf (or deafened) ears.
