Inverness manager John Hughes will be keeping his and his players’ feet firmly on the ground despite soaring to the top of the Scottish Premiership with a 4-2 win over Hamilton, yesterday.
Two of the league’s form sides played out a pulsating encounter in the Highland Capital that was finally sealed when James Vincent slotted past Michael McGovern with 13 minutes to go.
Earlier, Tony Andreu had given Accies the lead with a speculative free-kick, before a brace from Billy McKay and a Gary Warren header put Caley Thistle in control at 3-1.
Andreu made things nervy with his second in the 72nd minute but Vincent’s first goal since August last year gave Inverness a one-point lead at the top of the table.
Hughes will not be getting carried away, however, and wants his players to take each game as it comes.
“I’m the same as I was at the start of the season, I never get carried away,” he said.
“I felt we deserved the victory. We were very good in the first half and were unfortunate to lose a goal from a free-kick. But in the second half we were very good.
“We stopped playing a bit at 3-1 but when we had to go again, we got the fourth goal that killed them off. But I won’t be putting my head above the parapet, because football has a habit of kicking you up the backside.”
