McDonald’s will be marking World Children’s Day with its 11th edition of McHappy Day, its national charity event to mark World Children’s Day. The event will raise funds in aid of L-Istrina.

“A business truly reaches its full economic potential when it takes into account its social responsibility. This is because the economy should be of service to the community and not the other way round,” President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca said at the event’s launch at McDonald’s in Għargħur.

This month, customers are encouraged to take part in ‘Share a smile’ by taking photos with the customised cut-out smiles available from all McDonald’s restaurants and uploading them on the official McDonald’s Facebook page.

“McDonald’s will donate €1 for every McHappy smile shared on Facebook,” announced Kurt Camilleri, senior operations manager at McDonald’s Malta. “We fully support L-Istrina and the sterling work it carries out for children and their families each year.”

McHappy Day brings all McDonald’s restaurants together for a good cause. Last year’s local campaign raised €33,000 as 500 employees, 68 local personalities and 11,269 customers uploaded photos supporting the campaign. Over the past 11 years, McHappy Day has raised over €230,000 for charity.

This month, customers will also be able to purchase McHappy Day keychains available in four colours for €1 from all restaurants, with all proceeds also going to L-Istrina.

On November 29, McDonald’s Malta will join the global McHappy Day celebrations to raise more funds and awareness for children’s causes.

Special events will be held in McDonald’s restaurants throughout the day. “There will be piggy banks in all of our restaurants encouraging customers to contribute further to this important cause,” said Camilleri.
