Kenyan middle distance runner David Rudisha is confident of getting back to his best for the 2016 Rio Olympics after overcoming a knee injury.

Rudisha provided one of the unforgettable moments of the 2012 London Olympics when he broke the 800m world record.

He was forced to skip last year’s worlds because of the injury he sustained while running in New York’s Central Park but is fully fit again and training with renewed optimism.

“I’m looking forward to Rio now, 2016. That is my main plan,” the 25-year-old told reporters after beating a star-studded field to be named the outstanding male athlete at London 2012 at the inaugural Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) awards.

“But I’m also looking forward to next year, 2015 for the world championships. That’s going to be a stepping stone to prepare for the Olympics.”
