Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi said today his marriage to Sai Mizzi Liang was as strong as ever and characterised by trust, dismissing claims made by blogger Daphne Caruana Galizia.

In a statement this afternoon, the minister said “the suggestion of divorce is absurd”.

He was referring to an article published yesterday by Ms Caruana Galizia who alleged in a post that Dr Mizzi was seeing former Super One journalist Lindsey Gambin.

“All allegations are false and in this respect it is important to clearly state the facts and dispel all lies,” Dr Mizzi said.

The minister and his wife, as well as Ms Gambin, yesterday filed libel proceedings against Ms Caruana Galizia. They claimed the article was libellous and aimed to tarnish their reputation, apart from being unfounded and untrue. Dr Mizzi and his wife have also filed a police complaint.

The minister insisted today he and Ms Gambin have not been seeing each other in a relationship.

“Explicit details given in the blog are false, outrageous and irresponsible.”

Moreover, Ms Gambin did not join the trip to China last month as alleged on the blog.

The minister said that Ms Mizzi Liang’s contract of employment was tabled in Parliament by the government.

These facts, he said, were backed by strong and categorical evidence which would be submitted in court.

“All three parties will relish the opportunity to present the facts in court.”

The minister said the attack was preceded by other attacks by the Nationalist Party, led by Simon Busuttil, which were also based on lies.

His focus, he said, remained on delivery.
