Inconsistency with politicos is usual and, to an extent, also acceptable, but only if after a lapse of time. Though, not during the same interview, surely.

The leader of the Opposition was reported as saying: (a) “Politics should be built on honesty” and (b) “The country’s debt is increasing by € 3 million a day”, that is, an annualised €1,095 million, which is more than triple the actual amount.

Perhaps the reporter didn’t quite hear him add “lately” or “recently” or “over the last x days”.
