Kaci Hickox, a nurse who treated Ebola patients in West Africa and returned to the US under order of quarantine, not only decided to defy it by going out for a bike ride but also vowed to take her State to court over a quarantine she deems scientifically unsound.

A mere nurse, who not only endangered her own life and that of her loved ones treating a devastating and highly-contagious disease which even the best medical minds still do not fully understand, has put God knows how many more lives at risk by defying a State-sanctioned quarantine order.

This is humbling news because it shows just how close to our necks the sword of Damocles actually hangs. We are perched on the precipice of disaster and we hardly even know it.

This story of reckless bravado also reveals the hypocrisy of aid workers who see nothing twisted in expending great concern and effort over strangers’ welfare while showing no such qualms about their own people back at home.

This is the essence of the socialist liberal ideology, a self-defeating malaise which treats the western nation State with contempt while exalting the so-called ‘noble savages’ of the developing world. It is a mental illness which might one day lead us and our families to the doorstep of plague, famine and death.
