I agree with Frans Said’s letter ‘Hunting bias’ (The Sunday Times of Malta, October 19) about the chairman of the Ornis Committee, Mark Anthony Falzon.

Falzon should have remained neutral on the hunting issue, but now that he has revealed his bias, his continued chairmanship is untenable and both he and the blatantly pro-hunting and trapping Roderick Galdes should do the honourable thing and resign.

I also have a question for Joseph Muscat. Now that – and I quote – “the government will continue to defend the legitimate rights of Maltese live bird capturers” in defiance of the EU, does he also intend to ignore any fines imposed on us as a result? And if not, will he, Galdes and perhaps Falzon be paying – or us?

I would appreciate an answer. Whatever the outcome and whatever the answer – if there is one – I shall be reminding the newspaper – hence the people – of such a statement come the referendum and the next general election, if it isn’t postponed – or even if it is!
