For the past six years, musicians and singers of different styles, standards, nationalities and ages have been performing acoustic music to appreciative audiences at Main Square Bar and Restaurant, Independence Square (It-Tokk), Victoria, every second Wednesday of the month from 8.30pm onwards. These informal musical gatherings were started by UK singer, songwriter and guitarist Geoff Langton, who recently returned to celebrate their sixth anniversary with Doris Grech and her staff at the establishment.

A small group of regular musicians now organise the sessions, but part of the pleasure is never knowing who else may turn up. Everyone is welcome to perform solo or join in with other musicians. Over the years many tourists and foreign students, often accomplished musicians, have added an international flavour to the sessions, singing in their own language and introducing new, different musical styles and influences.

A number of successful local bands and soloists have also emerged from these sessions and are now established performers on the local music scene. Photos: Charles Spiteri
