Ivan Falzon has been appointed chief executive of Mater Dei Hospital.

He will replace Joe Caruana who has been in the post for the past three-and-a-half years.

The government had asked Mr Caruana to extend his services by six months following the expiration of his contract in April.

Health Minister Konrad Mizzi and Parliamentary Secretary Chris Fearne thanked Mr Caruana for his service in the past years.
