Fined: Slovan Bratislava and Sparta Prague have both been fined after their Europa League match last week was interrupted for around 40 minutes by crowd trouble. The Slovakian champions, charged with crowd disturbances, setting off of fireworks and insufficient organisation, were fined €50,000, UEFA said. The Czech visitors were fined €80,000 for crowd disturbances, setting of fireworks and missile-throwing by their fans.

Sanchez: River Plate winger Carlos Sanchez has earned his first Uruguay call-up in a squad that includes strikers Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani for friendlies against Costa Rica and Chile next month. The 29-year-old has been rewarded for his fine form for the Argentine champions and league leaders with his inclusion in the squad named on Wednesday by coach Oscar Tabarez.

Somers: Rangers non-executive chairman David Somers has been appointed executive chairman of the club on a temporary basis, the Glasgow side have announced. Somers will oversee the recruitment of a new chief executive and finance director following the departures of Graham Wallace and Philip Nash.

Tonev: Celtic’s Bulgarian international winger Aleksandar Tonev was banned for seven matches by the Scottish FA yesterday for racially abusing Aberdeen defender Shay Logan in a Premiership match in September. There was no immediate reaction from Aberdeen, but a Celtic spokesperson was quoted on their website as saying Tonev would appeal the ban.

Uchida: Schalke 04 fullback Atsuto Uchida signed a three-year extension to his deal with Champions League club Schalke 04 yesterday that will keep the Japan international at the Ruhr valley club until 2018. Uchida, who joined in 2010 from Japan’s Kashima Antlers, has played a total of 132 games for the Royal Blues, scoring twice and winning the German Cup in 2011.
