New contract: Leicester midfielder Andy King celebrated his 26th birthday by signing a new four-year contract at the club. King joined Leicester in 2004 and rose through the youth ranks before making his full debut in 2007. The Wales international, who has played six Premier League games this season, has penned a new deal until the summer of 2018 and he hopes to see out the rest of his career at the King Power Stadium.

Appeal: Swansea have appealed against Federico Fernandez’s red card in Tuesday’s League Cup defeat to Liverpool. The Argentinian was dismissed by referee Keith Stroud in stoppage time for a challenge on Philippe Coutinho and faces a three-match suspension. The FA will make a decision on the appeal ahead of Saturday’s Premier League trip to Everton.

Neto: Fiorentina goalkeeper Neto is likely to extend his contract at the Serie A club, reports said yesterday. Talks had been ongoing as the Brazilian has requested an increase on his current salary which stands at €650,000 per year. Neto, 25, has a contract that expires at the end of the current season. He was linked with a move elsewhere this summer but Fiorentina do not want Neto to leave and a contract could be signed in mid-November.

Last chance: Nigeria have been given until tomorrow to sort out a legal quagmire involving the country’s football federation (NFF) in what FIFA described as a “last opportunity to avoid a lengthy suspension”. FIFA said that if a federal court order, which has declared recent NFF elections to be null and void, is not withdrawn by then, Nigeria will be suspended from international football at least until the end of May.

Llambias: Rangers football board chairman Sandy Easdale has confirmed Derek Llambias has been hired as a consultant by the Ibrox club. The former Newcastle United managing director jetted into Glasgow this week for talks with the Light Blues board. Llambias is a close ally of Mike Ashley and had been expected to replace Graham Wallace – who resigned on Monday – as chief executive.
