Last weekend, Marsa played against new touring team Pontefract New College who in summer won the Yorkshire and Humberside T20 final.

Marsa won the first match and the two-game series will be completed next Saturday at the oval.

Pontefract batted first on Saturday but Mark Smith (three runs) and Aaron Lunn (one) did not have the best of starts for the visitors.

Connor Fisher and Elliot Spears fought back though, making 17 and 26 runs respectively.

Will Carter did not worry the scorer while Matty Green top scored with 29 runs following a series of great shots on the leg side.

Andy Green was starting to find rhythm when he was run out after making seven runs.

Joel Moore was also run out trying to give the strike to Green as Andy Petch remained not out with a single to his name.

Danny Mills tried hard, making seven runs and Daniel Bailey Towns was the last wicket to fall collecting one run.

The Marsa bowling was shaky giving away 26 extras, handing the visitors a total of 118 runs.

They were bowled out with a couple balls to spare.

For Marsa, Ali Hamza and Jonathan Tucker took two wickets each.

John Grima took off his wicket-keeping gloves after ten overs during which he took a stumping and also bowled four overs and picked up a wicket.

Adam Krishna (15 runs) and Ali Hamza (no score) opened the innings. John Rusher contributed with two runs and after ten overs the host team were looking very worried, only managing 35 runs.

But then Kevin Krishna collected 17 runs and Tony Azzopardi hit a 28.

Ramadeep Singh smashed 22 which left Sid Anand (six runs not out) and Jonathan Tucker (three runs not out) to win the game for Marsa CC with eight balls remaining.

Oddly enough, there were also 26 extras for Marsa.

For Pontefract New College, a great bowling spell came from Mark Smith as he claimed four wickets and Elliot Spears chipped in with two.
