The second ranking tournament from a series of eight organised by the Malta Pool Association was played recently.

The major honour in the men’s open went to Johan Attard.

In the final he beat Miguel Falzon 9-5 to book his place in the national team squad that will be playing in the European Championships next year. The tournament will be played in Malta between February 15 and 21.

Scott Muscat was the U-18 tournament winner after beating Owen Amato in a thrilling title match.

Muscat was trailing 0-4 at one stage but did well to regroup and tilt the balance in his favour, winning the final 7-5.

The U-23 competition final went to the wire as Dejan Grech prevailed by the odd frame in 15 at the expense of Owen Amato.

Ray Caruana was in a class of his own in the Over-50 category, going on to claim the title for veteran cueists with an 8-3 victory over Alfred Attard.
