A small Maltese-registered container ship is in danger of sinking after running aground off Stockholm.

The Finnish press is reporting that the 90-metre Kertu ran aground in a storm early this morning and has since been leaking oil, raising fears of environmental damage in the Stockholm archipelago.

The ship reportedly had some 50 tonnes of oil on board. Attempts are being made to transfer the oil to another vessel but the operation is being hampered by rough seas.
