Jermaine Grandison’s own goal broke Shrewsbury’s hearts after Chelsea survived a scare to snatch a late 2-1 win and progress to the quarter-finals of the League Cup last night.

The Town defender turned in Willian’s cross with nine minutes left but Jose Mourinho’s side were made to work to reach the last eight.

Andy Mangan had scored 84 seconds after coming on as a 75th-minute replacement to cancel out Didier Drogba’s opener before Grandison’s unlucky intervention.

Eunan O’Kane and Callum Wilson fired Bournemouth to their first-ever League Cup quarter-final as Eddie Howe’s men toppled West Brom 2-1 at Dean Court.

Liverpool staged a later rally to beat Swansea 2-1 at Anfield.

The Swans had taken the lead through Marvin Emnes on 66 minutes but Mario Balotelli came off the bench to hit the equaliser four minutes from time before Dejan Lovren completed the comeback with the winner deep in stoppage time.
