Lava flowing from the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii is now about 60 metres from the nearest house and could reach it in a day.

Authorities on Big Island are now preparing to issue evacuation orders to around 8,000 people living in the area.

The lava first emerged in late June and has made its way through miles of thick forest.

The volcano has been erupting since 1983.
