The Nationalist Party stated this morning its position remained in favour of life.

In a statement replying to concern expressed by anti-abortion movement Gift of Life that the party was sending mixed signals on abortion and euthanasia following a call for debate on the issues during its convention last weekend, the party said there was no cause for concern as its position remained unchanged.

It said that the suggestion for a debate was made by one of the convention participants who called upon the party to be fully informed about various social issues to be prepared should they ever arise.

This would enable the party to discuss the issue in an informed and mature manner rather than be caught unprepared.

This, the PN said, was the sole point of the suggestion and not to change the party position.
