The anti-abortion NGO Gift of Life has expressed concern over a call by the PN convention yesterday for debate on abortion and euthanasia.

"The Gift of Life Foundation is concerned with the mixed signals that the Nationalist Party is sending out on their position on abortion and euthanasia," the NGO said.

"To be "better informed" does not convince us of being the only motive for the discussion. The signs are not encouraging and sadly it seems that pro-life persons may no longer rely on the party’s unequivocal pro-life stand," the NGO said.

"The very fact that abortion and euthanasia are being placed on the agenda for discussion may imply that the Nationalist Party may one day make political issues out of them. This is very disconcerting."

The Foundation said it was not consulted or included in any of the discussions held so far.

"This leads us to ask what was discussed, who addressed the convention on these matters and what was decided?

"In view of recent developments, we therefore urge the Party to clarify it’s current position on life matters," Gift of Life said.
