Elderly people living at St Vincent de Paul Residence will be taught how to use tablet computers so they can enjoy reading e-books, watch their favourite movies and keep in contact with relatives over Skype.

The training will be offered for free by the residence through a programme called e-Anzjan being carried out in partnership with computer training company TCTC.

Through this project wards will be provided with an internet connection as well as computers and tablets.

Each ward will be allocated up to four nine-inch Android tablets to be shared among residents.

A spokesman for the Parliamentary Secretariat for the Elderly said the plan was to turn St Vincent de Paul – Malta’s largest home for the elderly – into a centre of excellence in the training in care for the elderly.

All 500 employees, across all departments, will be given at least 20 hours of computer training in collaboration with the Malta Communication Authority. They will also be trained to promote active aging in line with the government’s commitments.
