Garbage has been mounting on both sides of Old Bakery Street, right next to the Manoel Theatre and the St Albert the Great College (inset). A restaurant owner who complained was told that a skip in the area was removed because it was being misused, especially by restaurants. Action should be taken to get rid of such an eyesore, the sooner the better.

Free shower

Commuters on bus 344 from Birkirkara to Valletta at 8am on Monday last week had to endure the unpleasant surprise of water dripping onto them from the bus roof. There was also lack of space as most of the seats were wet, forcing commuters to stand. It is a disgrace that, instead of improving, the service is getting worse. Let us hope the Spaniards taking over in January will bring about change.

Law enforcement

A marked police Land Rover driving down Mdina Road, Balzan at about 7pm on Wednesday made a sudden left turn at the traffic lights close to the MFSA offices in Mrieħel rather than proceeding towards Mrieħel Bypass as it should have. It seems the driver missed the lane that takes traffic towards Oxford House area. Police officers should lead by example.

Unsightly wall

A wall built of lovely Malta stone was originally being used to act as a boundary wall at the Marsa dock area just before one gets to the Malta Transport Head Office. However, this wall was lately increased in height using some ugly and completely out of place concrete bricks. It is a quick and cheap fix. Even though there may be construction going on behind the wall, and it had to be raised to be in line with regulations, it is so unsightly. Why not give it a coat of paint the colour of stone at least?

Dark skater

The skate boarder that was spotted going down St Joseph High Road, Ħamrun two weeks ago – an item about him appeared on October 13 – has appeared again. In fact, it seems his is becoming a daily routine. As if skate boarding on a main road is not dangerous enough, the young chap is usually wearing black clothing, including a black golf cap, making him hardly visible early in the morning. The police need to track him down and have a word with him... for his own good and that of motorists.

Mobile distraction

Bus drivers have often been seen being distracted by friends or wives/girlfriends who stand next to them, chatting while driving, even when there are notices that this is not allowed. Apart from distracting the driver they also make the passageway where passengers embark and disembark narrower.
