The televised fiction dramas in Maltese at prime time and other slots, by the three major TV stations, in my opinion are projecting a deep-seated sense of gloom and doom among viewers.
The implications one is being confronted are the cause of dissatisfaction, depression and confusion. Sadly enough, the very nonchalance with which the broadcasting authority accepts this hour by hour of screaming, greed, grief, cruelty, intolerance, treachery and personal vanity is condoning such behaviour.
Is it not enough that unfortunately these undesirables are becoming part and parcel of daily living? Do we have to invent, create and encourage relentless situations that confuse and confound the viewers?
I know the trend is anything goes as long as it attracts an audience. Laughter and humour, which are essential ingredients to uplift and help circumvent the burden one encounters, are completely missing throughout, especially by PBS, which is so exalted by its performance as the number one audience catcher.
Give us at least some decent Maltese programmes to make us laugh because, truly, laughter is the best medicine.
