Iniesta: Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta could miss next week’s La Liga clash with Celta Vigo and the Champions League tie against Ajax Amsterdam after injuring himself against Real Madrid on Saturday. Iniesta has had plenty of highs and lows during his career but will quickly want to forget a nightmare ‘Clasico’. Not only did he commit the howler that led to Real’s third goal in a 3-1 comeback win at the Bernabeu but he was also forced off with a calf injury in the 71st minute.

In China: Guangzhou Evergrande will have to wait another week to secure their fourth successive Chinese Super League title after a rare slip up yesterday. Needing just a point to clinch the title, Guangzhou conceded a late goal in a 1-0 loss to second-placed Beijing Guoan. It was just the fourth loss of the season for Guangzhou but was enough to jeopardise their title aspirations. With just one round to go, Guangzhou lead the standings with 69 points, three ahead of Beijing, who can pinch the title if they win their last match against Henan Jianye and Guangzhou lose to Shandong Luneng.

Gattuso: Gennaro Gattuso has resigned as coach of Greek Super League club OFI Crete after seven matches, the former Italy and Milan midfielder said yesterday. The 36-year-old World Cup winner took over in June, but stepped down immediately following a 3-2 home defeat by Asteras Tripolis. “I have put all my passion and all my strength into this team but I can’t be the one solving all the club’s problems every day, I’m not the president and my job should only be football,” Gattuso told a news conference. “I feel very upset but I cannot continue. The players don’t believe in me.”

Eduardo: Carlos Eduardo scored five times as Nice moved up to seventh in Ligue 1 with a staggering 7-2 victory at Guingamp. Claudio Beauvue headed Guingamp into an early lead, but that was as good as it got for the hosts as Eduardo’s first-half hat-trick and Alassane Plea’s goal on the stroke of half-time put Nice in charge. Eduardo bagged another two after the interval, while Eric Bautheac scored the away side’s seventh shortly after Ronnie Schwartz had pulled one back for Guingamp.
