A month after Malta celebrated its independence in 1964, a group of young, newly-qualified doctors were celebrating their academic success in the streets of Valletta. Fifty years later they met at the Hilton Malta to celebrate half a century of achievements.

The reunion began with a Mass, celebrated by Fr Joe Abela.

The dinner was attended by all the doctors living locally, except for Foreign Minister George Vella, who was abroad, but sent a warm message from the US which was read out at the dinner. Some colleagues came from abroad .

Mercedes Schembri Wismayer (nèe Zarb Adami), the only lady in the medical course, praised the group for remaining united all these 50 years. Specially remembered were three colleagues and four wives who had passed away.
