Pires: FC Goa midfielder Robert Pires has been suspended for two games in the inaugural Indian Super League after allegedly being involved in a half-time altercation with Atletico de Kolkata coach Antonio Lopez Habas. After Thursday’s game, which featured seven yellow cards, Goa coach Zico claimed the former Arsenal man had been punched by Habas. A disciplinary committee yesterday stated Pires had been suspended for two matches, with Habas banned for four.

Juric decides: A goal from second-half substitute Tomi Juric gave Western Sydney Wanderers a 1-0 victory over Al-Hilal in the first leg of the Asian Champions League final at Parramatta Stadium yesterday. The Wanderers are aiming to become the first Australian team to win Asia’s biggest club prize in their maiden campaign. Al-Hilal will host the second leg at King Fahd Stadium in Riyadh next Saturday.

King: Andy King will serve a two-match Euro 2016 qualifying ban for his red card against Cyprus. The Leicester midfielder was shown a straight red card for fouling Cyprus captain Constantinos Makridis in Wales’ 2-1 win at the Cardiff City Stadium on October 13. UEFA has increased King’s suspension for violent conduct and the 25-year-old will now miss Wales’ away games in Belgium next month and in Israel in March.

Delph: Fabian Delph’s operation on his dislocated shoulder has been a success but he is not expected to play for Aston Villa again this year. The England midfielder suffered the injury when he fell awkwardly in training last week. He has now had surgery but has been ruled out for months in a major blow to Villa boss Paul Lambert.

Milanic sacked: Leeds United’s trigger-happy owner Massimo Cellino fired his second manager of the season yesterday evening when Slovenian Darko Milanic parted company with the Championship club after just 32 days at Elland Road. Milanic, who was appointed on September 23, was sacked after Leeds were beaten 2-1 at home by Wolves in their second tier game, meaning Milanic failed to win any of his six matches in charge.
