Q: I took a laptop to a local company to have it repaired. The repair was carried out well, but the trader, without me asking him to do so, decided to clean the laptop’s keyboard with a chemical product and this short-circuited the keyboard. So I had to leave the laptop to have the keyboard repaired. The trader told me that the repair would take at least two weeks. I cannot stay without a laptop for such a long time.
What are my rights?
A: Since the keyboard was damaged by the company, you are first of all entitled to repairs free of charge. You may also ask the trader to provide you with a laptop to use while yours is being repaired. If the trader cannot provide you with such a laptop, and you absolutely cannot stay without one, you should inform the trader that you will be hiring a laptop from someone and will be charging him the expenses incurred.
