Demonstrators took to the streets of New York yesterday calling for action against Ebola and an end to the stigmatization the diseased has caused.

About 80 people marched from Times Square to the United Nations. They carried banners, waved the flags from their countries and shouted, "Stop Ebola now" and "Ebola must go."

In the United States, Ebola has killed one person and has infected three others.

In West Africa, the disease has killed 4,876 people, mostly in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, since the outbreak began earlier this year, according to the World Health Organization.

New York City has the largest Liberian community outside of Liberia. Many Liberians in New York say they are being shunned by friends and co-workers and fear losing their jobs.

The march and rally was organized by the United African Congress, which represents African immigrants.
