BORGIA. On October 14, in Palermo, Papàs VITO, parish priest of the Greek-Catholic Church of Our Lady of Damascus from 1959 to 2009, passed away peacefully, aged 95. Deeply mourned by the local Greek-Catholic community and by his many friends in Malta.  The funeral took place on October 15 at St Demetrios Cathedral church, Piana degli Albanesi, Sicily. A memorial service for the repose of his soul will be said tomorrow at 9am at Our Lady of Damascus church, Valletta.

CILIA. On October 23, at St Vincent de Paul Residence, GEORGINA, widow of John, aged 90, went to meet the Risen Lord, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her sisters-in-law Antonia Camilleri, widow of Lawrence, Josephine Camilleri, widow of Paul, her nieces Patricia Camilleri, and Tanya Cachia and her husband Bernard Cachia, other relatives and friends in Malta and overseas. The funeral leaves St Vincent de Paul Residence today at 1.30pm for the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery chapel where Mass præsente cadavere will be celebrated at 2pm, followed by interment in the family grave. No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

FARRUGIA. On October 24, CARMEN, née Spiteri, aged 69, went to meet the Risen Lord, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. Deeply mourned by her beloved husband Alfred, her children and their spouses, grand­children, her brothers and sister, in-laws, nephews and nieces, relatives and friends. Mass præsente cadavere will be celebrated today at 8.30am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel church, Fleur-de-Lys, Birkirkara, followed by interment in the family grave at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

HUNTINGFORD – VIVIENNE. In everlasting memory of a dear mother who passed away 35 years ago today. Always remembered in our thoughts and prayers. Stephanie and Ray, Maura and Francis.

PRECA – EDGAR. In ever loving memory of our dear father, today the 47th anniversary of his demise. Sadly missed and fondly remembered. Doris, Lilian, Tony, in-laws and their families. Merciful Jesus, grant him eternal rest.

Annual cactus exhibition

The Cactus and Succulent Society of Malta is holding its 23rd annual exhibition of cactus and other succulent plants today and tomorrow from 8.30am to 7pm at the Victoria Hall, Oratory Street, Naxxar (behind the parish church).

All the plants exhibited are grown by the members and will be sold at competitive prices. Entrance is free.
