Unemployment dropped by 1,000 in September, continuing its downward trend, figures out yesterday showed.
The National Statistics Office said the number of people registering for work last month stood at 6,599 when compared to 7,619 in September last year.
The downward trend was also confirmed on a month-to-month basis, dropping by 100 when compared to August.
Data provided by the Employment and Training Corporation recorded decreases in the registered unemployed among all age groups with the larger difference being recorded in those aged between 30 and 44.
An increase of 37 people was recorded among those who had been registering for employment for more than a year.
The Education Ministry said the figures confirmed the positive results that were being achieved. The number of unemployed dropped by five people a day over the past eight months, the ministry said.
