Pieta Hotspurs bagged their second win in their last three matches when they edged past Zebbug Rangers 1-0 at Hibs Stadium.

It was Zebbug who made the brighter start as after three minutes of play Yessous Camilleri connected to Carlo Monti’s corner-kick but his firm header came off the bar.

On 22 minutes, Monti almost profited from a lack of communication between Orosco Anonam and David Cassar but the Scottish midfielder was denied by a timely intervention from the Hotspurs no.1.

The Hotspurs finally threatened on 26 minutes when Jurgen Pisani’s cross picked Rafael Xavier whose dipping header finished just wide.

On the restart, Pietà showed signs of improvement and on 52 minutes Kyle Cesare played in Anonam who fired just wide.

On 64 minutes, Zebbug protested for a penalty when Monti fell under the challenge from Rodrigues but the referee waved play on.

Pietà immediately charged forward with Rafael Xavier powering into the area before sending a dipping cross towards Jurgen Pisani who stabbed the ball home from close in.

Zebbug substitute BojanMamic almost grabbed the leveller on 83 minutes when he connected to Mathias Mucchardi’s cross but his header was pushed away by Cassar.

Pieta striker Rafael Xavier was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
