Golf: World number four Sergio Garcia will lead a heavyweight line-up in the second edition of the Turkish Airlines Open next month. The 34-year-old Spaniard joins Ryder Cup team-mates Victor Dubuisson, world number five Henrik Stenson, US Open winner Martin Kaymer and former world number one Lee Westwood at the penultimate event of the European Tour season. Seventy-eight players will compete for a prize fund of seven million euros at the Colin Montgomerie-designed Maxx Royal course in Antalya.

Motor racing: Caterham Formula One employees found their factory closed yesterday but a legal administrator held out hope that the struggling team might still survive. Finbarr O’Connell said various parties had approached him to express interest either in the assets or keeping Caterham racing as an F1 team and negotiations were ongoing. He said the factory would be reopened if a deal was reached.

Cricket: Former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff joined Brisbane Heat on a short-term deal in the Big Bash League (BBL) yesterday, extending his surprise return to Twenty20 cricket. Forced into retirement by a knee injury in 2009 after 79 tests and 141 one-dayers, the 36-year-old made a shock return for Lancashire in the Twenty20 Blast earlier this year. Flintoff will arrive in December to reunite with his ex-Lancashire team-mate, now Brisbane coach, Stuart Law.

Rugby Union: Clermont Auvergne’s Julien Bardy has been banned for five weeks for striking Saracens’ Billy Vunipola with his knee in the European Champions Cup last weekend. The 29-year-old caught England Number eight Vunipola with his knee in the 78th minute of Clermont’s 30-23 Champions Cup Pool One defeat on Saturday. Bardy, who has the right to appeal the decision, will be free to play again on December 8.
