Following an eventful weekend at the MCF Canoe Sport Festival, the Malta Canoe Federation (MCF) has switched its attention to the last set of sprint races for 2014.

A fresh crop of athletes who came through the MCF’s development programme will be representing Malta for the first time in the Cyprus International Regatta.

Following an intense year of preparation under the guidance of athlete/coach Matthew Schembri, the contingent will head to Cyprus today to compete in the following disciplines on Sunday: Matthew Schembri (seniors – 500m and 200m sprint), Samuel Borg (juniors – 1000m, 500m and 200m sprint); Michaela Agius (juniors – 1,000m, 500m and 200m sprint) and Martina Agius (juniors – 1000m, 500m and 200m sprint)

This regatta marks the end of the sprint season for 2014 after which a winter beach racing competition will take place from November till March with a 12-race series.
