Danica Bonello Spiteri will race in the XTerra World Championships this weekend.

2014 has been the culmination year for Danica Bonello Spiteri who will be racing at the prestigious XTerra World Championships in Maui, Hawaii, on Sunday.

Bonello Spiteri is the reigning ITU Cross Triathlon champion in her age group, a title she claimed last month in Zittau, Germany.

Cross triathlon is the offroad version of the standard sport where the bike and run segments are held on a cross country circuit.

Due to the nature of the event, cross triathletes have to use specialised equipment for the race, particularly a mountain bike and trail running shoes.

Bonello Spiteri is no exception and in Maui, she will benefit from her newly-established partnership with Ecco Sports through their local distributors King Shoe Shops.

“We are thrilled to be working with Danica as we know we can make each step of her race and training more worthwhile through the use of our BIOM trail shoes,” the sponsors said in a statement.

Bonello Spiteri is confident she will produce her best on Sunday.

“I will be racing for Malta and my aim to fly the flag as high up as I can in Maui,” she said before embarking on the long trans-Atlantic trip for her final assignment of the season.
