A man with an alcohol problem was today jailed for a year and had his 18-month suspended jail term brought into effect after he pleaded guilty to stealing a car’s four doors.

Charlie Brincat, an unemployed 33-year-old man from Cospicua, pleaded guilty to stealing the Peugeot’s doors as it was parked in Polverista Street - the road where he lives.

He also pleaded guilty to committing a crime during the operative period of a suspended sentence.

As he pleaded guilty, Magistrate Anthony Vella warned him that he had no option but to send him to jail. After the man shrugged his shoulders, the magistrate jailed him for a year and a further 18 months which had been suspended for three years in a judgment handed down in 2012.

Police Inspector Robert Said Sarreo prosecuted.
