A father was hit with a £1,792 bill after his 10-year-old daughter downloaded 28 hours of videos – about loom bands.

Trinity Groves watched hundreds of the tutorials over two weeks on her Nokia phone after the family’s home Wi-Fi stopped working. But her father, Philip, 35, was unaware his daughter had instead been using Vodafone’s premium rates for the internet in order to access YouTube videos.

She had watched 28 hours worth of online videos on how to make loom bands so she could impress her friends at school. Mr Groves said he was stunned when his September bill landed on the doorstep of his home in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, to see he had been charged £1,411, the Daily Mail reports.

Wedding proposal – in police car

A man who crashed his car while on the way to propose to his girlfriend still popped the question – in the back of a police car.

Caine Hutchings, 30, was driving Emily Dukeson, 27, and their two dogs to a scenic spot on the cliffs at Blue Anchor, Somerset. He lost control of his Citroen on the A39 near Shapwick and the car smashed into a tree, though the couple, from Radstock, and their dogs were uninjured.

They were picked up in a marked police car by Pc Nicola Rickards, of Avon and Somerset Police, who offered to take them to a nearby pub. During the short journey, Mr Hutchings decided he could not wait any longer and suddenly produced a ring to Miss Dukeson in the back seat.

Superheroes scrap in Hollywood

Chewbacca was forced to step in to break up a fight between Mr Incredible and Batgirl.

Tensions between the costumed characters spilled over on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame as Mr Incredible launched an attack on Batman. But in astonishing footage, captured by production company FilmOn.com, the character from Star Wars grabs Mr Incredible in a bid to pull him off his costumed rival.

Freddy Krueger and Where’s Wally also attempted to calm the situation as stunned tourists watched on. After breaking free, Mr Incredible can be seen attacking the woman again, knocking her to the ground before being restrained.

Why Pittsburgh really is the pits

Pittsburgh has “won” an ugliest accent tournament in the United States, beating the other finalist – Scranton – in a reader’s poll with more than 54% of the vote.

Gossipy news site Gawker.com set up a tournament bracket pitting what it deemed the 16 ugliest city accents in the US against one another.

Pittsburgh advanced to the finals by winning readers’ votes over Atlanta, Philadelphia and Boston. The Pittsburgh accent, an odd amalgam of southern twang and lazy East Coast diction – which turns downtown into “dahntahn” and you all into “yinz” – “worsted” Scranton by a vote of 10,404 to 8,748.

Bionic groom walks down aisle

New York resident Matt Ficarra has been paralysed from the chest down since an accident three years ago, but that did not stop him from walking down the aisle at his wedding.

Mr Ficarra was able to stand and walk during the wedding ceremony in suburban Syracuse with the help of a battery-powered robotic exoskeleton called an Ekso. He told the Syracuse Post-Standard newspaper that he has been driving to a rehabilitation centre in Allentown, Pennsylvania, weekly since April to practise walking with the apparatus.

Mr Ficarra has been paralysed since he broke his neck in a boating accident in 2011. He married Jordan Basile in the ballroom of the Doubletree Hotel in DeWitt.
