The European Popular Party is holding an extraordinary convention in Malta in the first half of 2017.

This was announced today at a meeting for leaders of European Popular Parties in Brussels, attended by Nationalist Party leader Simon Busuttil.

The announcement was made at the end of negotiations in which Dr Busuttil participated.

The convention will include German chancellor Angela Merkel, Spanish Prime Minister Marinao Rajoy, Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and Prime Ministers from other states including Poland, Portugal, Finland, Hungary, Latvia and Ireland.

Dr Busuttil welcomed the decision for the convention to be held in Malta.

He said that this was being done at the insistence of the PN. Through the convention, the PN would be getting to Malta most European leaders at a time when the country would be holding the EU presidency.

He said that today’s decision was taken following intensive work by the PN which has been going on since last summer.
