HSBC UK Contact Centre (HBEU) has raised €17,312 from staff donations for a range of charities and community projects in the first six months of 2014.

Staff contributed in a variety of ways to support the missions of Ursuline Sisters Creche, The Hospice Malta, Dar il-Kaptan, Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (SPCA), Europa Donna, as well as a range of community projects, including a Helen O’Grady initiative.

Beyond monetary fundraising, a group of volunteers spent numerous hours attending schools and giving talks about HSBC Bank Malta’s three-year €500,000 Catch the Drop initiative on water conservation.

Separately, HBEU organised a weight loss challenge where staff joined by donating either €10 or €4. This led to a total collection of €300, which was donated to Malta Breast Cancer awareness group Europa Donna.

Middlesea employees take children to farm

A group of Middlesea employees recently accompanied a group of children from Piccola Casa di San Giuseppe and St Patrick’s Salesian Boys to Girgenti Farm. This activity was part of the Middlesea Insurance employee volunteering programme, which allows employees to do voluntary work during working hours.

The children took part in a number of outdoor activities such as a scavenger hunt and also spent some time feeding animals.

Both Piccola Casa di San Giuseppe and the St Patrick’s Salesian Boys are organisations which provide a home environment for children from difficult backgrounds.

GasanMamo Insurance sponsors Swieqi club

GasanMamo Insurance has become the main sponsor of the Swieqi Phoenix Handball Club. The club is a member of Phoenix Sports Club, one of the largest local sport entities with teams competing in basketball, handball, volleyball and table tennis leagues.

The Swieqi Phoenix Handball Club is currently competing in national handball leagues in various categories and this year will be fielding a total of seven teams.

The club, an affiliate of the Malta Sports Council and of the Malta Handball Association, was formed in 2010.
