The Aquatic Sports Association will be hosting the Malta International Cup between this evening and next Sunday.

The tournament will feature five teams, namely Ireland, Livorno, Sette Scogli, Switzerland and Malta.

Karl Izzo, the Malta national coach, is looking at this tournament as a perfect opportunity to have a closer look at a number of young players as he starts preparations for next year’s European Championship qualifiers.

“This tournament marks the start of our build-up ahead of the Euro qualifiers next February,” Izzo said.

“We have some young players drafted into the squad to replace the established ones unavailable for this tournament.

“This will be a good opportunity for them to stake their claim for a place in the team.”

The tournament starts this evening with the match between Ireland and Switzerland.

Malta play in the second match in programme when they take on Italian side Sette Scogli.
