A man was this afternoon denied bail after pleading not guilty to the attempted murder of a man with whom he was abusing of drugs when he stabbed him very close to the heart early yesterday.

Julian Cuschieri, 51, from Cospicua, denied trying to kill Stefano Caruana, seriously injuring him, possession of a penknife and possession of cocaine and heroin. He was also accused of relapsing.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera denied his request for bail and the man was remanded in custody.

Police Inspector Josric Mifsud prosecuted while lawyer Christopher Chircop appeared for the accused.
