One of four capital projects discussed with the former Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government by Mellieħa council was a cable-car system between Mellieħa Bay (Għadira) and the urban part of the town.

Answering a parliamentary question by Ċensu Galea (PN), Local Government Minister Owen Bonnici said the council had given presentations on four capital projects during a meeting between the two sides.

The other projects involved the excavation of a tunnel to alleviate traffic congestion between Main Street and George Borg Olivier Street; the upgrading of more arterial roads through the EU’s TEN-T programme, involving the road between St Paul’s Bay and Mellieħa and the Għadira road; and the construction of a community centre including facilities for child care, sports and parking.

Dr Bonnici said it was the council’s intention to drum up interest for these projects in the private sector, without seeking public finance.
