A man was yesterday conditionally discharged for 18 months after falsely claiming he was driving a car to protect his son after an accident.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke heard George Falzon, 55, from Qormi, admit he gave false information to the police when he said he was behind the wheel during a collision in Triq il-Mitħna, Qormi, on August 5 last year.

Soon after Mr Falzon admitted what had really happened and that it was his son who was driving.

Police Inspector Kylie Borg prosecuted.
