Verona have been fined 50,000 euros and given a partial stadium ban by the Italian league as punishment for racist chants directed at Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari during Sunday’s Serie A match.

The Ghana international was the target of a section of Verona supporters during the game the Verona outfit hosted and lost 3-1.

The Lega Serie A said: “Around 3,000 local supporters sitting in the curva sud (south section) of the stadium on two occasions during the first half of the game directed chants of racial discrimination at Sulley Muntari and those were heard in other sections of the stadium.”

As part of the punishment, Verona will have the ring of the curva sud section at the Marc Antonio Bentegodi stadium empty for their next home match against Lazio on October 30.

Inter have been fined 30,000 euros for discriminatory chants aimed at Napoli fans during Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Napoli at the San Siro.

Juventus, meanwhile, will be without Simone Padoin for Sunday’s match against Palermo with the midfielder handed a one-match suspension for in-sulting the officials during Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Sassuolo.

Sampdoria defender Fabrizio Cacciatore, Verona defender Rafael Marquez and Cesena midfielder Manuel Coppola will also serve one-match bans this weekend.
