AGIUS. On October 19, CARMELO of Qormi (ex-foreman at TM), aged 61, passed away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife Margaret, née Borg, his daughters Pamela and her husband David L. Grima, and Elaine and her husband Javier Ruiz, his grandchild Nora, his in-laws, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2.30pm for St George parish church, Qormi, where Mass præsente cadavere will be celebrated at 3pm, followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Qormi. No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

BORGIA. On October 14, in Palermo, Papàs VITO, parish priest of the Greek-Catholic Church of Our Lady of Damascus from 1959 to 2009, passed away peacefully, aged 95. Deeply mourned by the local Greek-Catholic community and by his many friends in Malta. The funeral took place on October 15 at St Demetrios Cathedral church, Piana degli Albanesi, Sicily. A memorial service for the repose of his soul will be said on Sunday, October 26 at 9am at Our Lady of Damascus church, Valletta.

GRECH. On October 19, at Mater Dei Hospital, JOSEPH, of Vittoriosa, aged 87, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Polly, née Farrugia, his children Joseph and his wife Anne, Sylvana and her husband Leo Vella, and Austin and his wife Claire, his beloved grandchildren Daniel, Adam, Celine, Denise and Amanda and her husband Stan, in-laws, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 9.15am for Our Lady of the Annunciation Dominican church, Vittoriosa, where Mass præsente cadavere will be celebrated at 10am, followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

ZAMMIT. On October 3, in the UK, PAUL, passed away peacefully. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Angela, his children Josephine and her husband Charles, Stanley and his wife Odette, his grandchildren, other relatives and friends. A Mass for the repose of his soul will be said tomorrow at 6.30pm at Tal-Ibraġ parish church. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend.

Funeral

The funeral of JOHN SCICLUNA who died on October 6, will take place tomorrow. The funeral cortège leaves Mater Dei Hospital at 1.30pm for Mosta parish church where Mass præsente cadavere will be celebrated at 2pm, followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery.

Benjamin Tonna lecture

This year’s Benjamin Tonna Lecture, organised by Discern,the Church’s Institute for Research on the Signs of the Times, will take place tomorrow (Wednesday 22 Oct) at 7pm at the Phoenicia Hotel, Floriana.

The guest speaker is Mgr Donal McKeown, Bishop of Derry, Ireland.

Mgr McKeown has specialised in educational matters for the past 23 years.

He will be speaking about ‘The Catholic Church in a Mission-ary World’.
