The seasonal influenza vaccine will be available from all government health centres between November 3 and 22, both days included, the government said.

It said in a statement most councils and a number of family doctors were participating in the vaccination campaign.

All persons aged 55 years and over, children between six months and 59 months and people of any age suffering from chronic diseases of the lungs, heart, liver, kidney; diabetes mellitus, and any immunodeficiency conditions, including HIV and AIDS are entitled to the vaccine free of charge.

In the case of people under 55 years, evidence of one of the above conditions needs to be confirmed by the presentation of a Schedule V Control Card or a recent medical certificate.

Those over 55 who have already registered with their councils or family doctor should wait for notice from the respective council or doctor and should not go to the health centre for the vaccine.

Carers of peoplewho are bed bound and unable to leave their home are to call the MMDNA office on 2138 7526 from Monday to Saturday between 11am and 12.30pm or between 2 to 3.30pm for the vaccine to be given at home by MMDNA nurses.

Vaccination from Health Centres will take place Mondays to Saturdays between 10am and noon. There will be afternoon sessions at the Mosta, Floriana and Paola centres Mondays to Saturday from 1pm – 7pm.

Identity cards have to be shown in the case of adults and the immunisation record book/card in the case of children.
