The Turkish Prime Minister's special envoy to Libya is in Malta for talks with Libyan Prime Minister Abdullah Thinni, and is then due to travel to Misurata, the power base of the militia which now controls Tripoli and Benghazi.

The Turkish government said its envoy Emrullah Isler has also visited Tobruk, where the Libyan governemnt is currently based. It said he is sharing Turkey's views to ensure peace and stability in Libya by bringing an end to the existing climate of conflict of conflict in the country.

Mr Thinni arrived in Malta yesterday and met the Malta-based American ambassador to Libya, Deborah Jones, shortly after he arrived.

Ms Jones later said the meeting had been a valuable exchange of views. 

Despite the pointers to possible mediation between the elected government and the militia now in control of Tripoli, Mr Thinni said in an interview with  Zintan TV on Friday that  ever since the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi, the international community had not supported  the state and the building of institutions and cadres. 

The government was even finding it difficulty to obtain ammunition with which to fight the terrorists, the prime minister said in the interview, quoted by the Libya Herald.

“They want us to fight terrorism. How would we fight them with stones or our hands?”, complained Thinni. “While the other party is obtaining arms and ammunition coming to them by illegal means. The world sees and is seen standing idly and does not take any decisive action about what is happening”.

The prime minister said his government’s recent contacts with France and the UAE formed part of attempts to create an alliance against these armed groups.
