The Gozitan company that supplies stone to the Italian company responsible for works on the new Parliament building has strongly denied that it was responsible for project delays.

Q Stone Limited of Qala this morning filed a counter protest against CFF Filiberti Srl saying that it was the Italian company that was responsible for the delays as it "clearly" did not have the funds to pay the money it owned to its sub-contractors.

Q Stone said CFF Filiberti owed it some €250,000, but, despite this,  it continued supplying the stone. There were times when the Italian company did not even send anyone to pick up the slabs.

Q Stone reserved the right to stop the service and to sue the company for damages. It also called on the Italian company to retract the false claims made.

CFF Filiberti Srl had claimed in its judicial protest that the Gozitan company did not deliver the stone slabs within the established timeframes, and CFF was now being fined €1,000 per day as a result of the delays.

It said the company had not yet supplied the quantity of stone agreed, with 60 cubic metres left to be delivered from a total of 2,000 cubic metres.

The Italian company also complained about the quality of the stone being provided. It held Q Stone responsible for damages.
