Archbishop Paul Cremona was given the wrong advice on divorce, blogger and columnist Fr Joe Borg said on Times Talk this evening.

The programme was discussing the Archbishop’s resignation and the future of the Catholic Church in Malta.

Fr Borg, who had put on the public agenda the crisis of the Church leadership, claimed that the Archbishop was told the referendum could be won.

This, he said, was one of the many things that happened or were said during the referendum campaign that should not have happened, such as banning divorce promoter Deborah Schembri from working on the church tribunal.

Also present for the programme were the former editor of The Sunday Times Laurence Grech and Louise Laferla, who holds a Masters in theology.

Those interviewed included Victor Axiak, the former head of the Church Environment Commission, who wrote in August that Mgr Cremona was being ‘crucified’ (watch videos).

Presented by Times of Malta’s head of media Herman Grech and chief reporter Mark Micallef, Times Talk is live on TVM on Tuesday at 6.45pm with repeats on Wednesday on TVM at 8.30am and another repeat on TVM2 on Wednesday at 1pm.
