There are currently 1,950 applications by senior citizens to enter old people’s homes owned by the government or in which it is renting beds, Social Solidarity Minister Michael Farrugia told Clyde Puli (PN) in reply to a parliamentary question yesterday.

In March the number of applications stood at 1,935.

Minister Farrugia added that a total of 493 senior citizens had been accommodated in government-owned or rented old people’s homes in the first eight months of the year.

In 2013 the government had increased its bedstock in old people’s homes by 194.
